What Activities does Kareri do?

Research into the Plight of Widows especially in arid and semi-arid regions.

Psycho-social support (Counselling services, trauma healing, access to rehabilitation services, formation of support groups and networks).

Humanitarian support (food, shelter, clothing, water supply, support with school fees).

Economic Empowerment (agribusiness including pig, chicken and goat rearing, beekeeping farming, Merry go rounds, and life skills such as soap making, baking, beauty etc.)

Gender Justice for Widows (to be enhanced by a focus on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG), Harmful Practices (HP) especially those experienced by widows, promoting Positive Masculinities.

Legal Justice and Widows Rights (Awareness creation and education on legal justice especially the Law of Succession).

Climate Change- To educate widows on ways of mitigating the climate crisis through agricultural methods favorable to arid and semi-arid regions in order to improve their food security.

Training (on entrepreneurship, leadership, management and financial literacy among others).

Our most Remarkable Achievements

Kareri widows CBO was launched on 31st Dec 2024 in Ngoce-Mbeere in Eastern Kenya by Rt. Rev. Prof. Moses Masamba, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Mbeere and Dean of Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK)
The Ministry of Widows and Widowers was launched by the Bishop for continued support and sustainability in the Diocese of Mbeere
420 people were reached physically during the launching event. They shared a meal, each of them was given a food hamper and benefitted from important speeches.
Awareness about the plight of widows was raised
Increased awareness about the Law of Succession and the Rights of Widows
Widows and widowers in Mbeere have a more sense of belonging, acceptance and inclusion in Church and society
Strengthened collaborations between Kareri Widows CBO, ACK Diocese of Mbeere and other organizations
The CEO of Kareri was a resource person at the Women’s Empowerment Seminar organized by Women’s Ministry at ACK St Peter’s Cathedral Mbeere Diocese on 31st Jan 2025, where she created awareness about the plight of widows to about 400 women including widows
