About us

Widows are among the category of women whose rights are most violated, and widowhood is one of the most neglected of all gender and human rights issues globally.

Kareri Widows CBO is duly registered by the Directorate of Social Development in Kenya under Act, No. 30 of 2022. It is a non-profit initiative for Women’s Empowerment, with a focus on vulnerable widows, especially those in Arid and Semi-Arid areas in Kenya, to attain their right to justice, dignity, inclusion, self-reliance, health and well-being.

The Organization is based on the approach of integral mission or holistic mission that combines Proclamation of the Gospel and Demonstration of God’s love to the World that “God so loved” (John 3:16), by addressing people’s physical needs, as Jesus exemplified in his earthly Ministry. It therefore address the plight of widows through Psychosocial, humanitarian, and economic support, access to legal and gender justice, as well as mitigating the effects of Climate crisis.

Kareri Widows Organisation offering psychosocial support to widows and widowers in All Saints Kianyaga Parish in ACK Kirinyaga Diocese on Mothering Sunday, 30th March 2025.

This event led to the formation of a Widows’ support group in Kianyaga Archdeaconry, and the need for a separate group of widowers was raised by the widowers present. Thank you to Archdeacon Ven Mary Muringo for hosting.

This afternoon event took place after Rev. Dr. Lydia Mwaniki, Founder and CEO of Kareri Organisation, delivered a moving sermon on Determination to Strengthen Family Relationships in All Saints Kianyaga Church, based on Joshua 24:14-15.
